She doesn't work and I'm the only one that works and we don't have children just yet.Can I file Married even though my wife is from Canada and doesn't have a Social Security Number yet?
Not only can you file as married, you must file as married. However, you cannot file as married filing jointly unless your wife elects to be treated as a US person for the entire year. This will mean including any income she may have earned outside the US on your tax return, but with the possibility of obtaining a credit for any Canadian income tax liability on that same income.
If she does not make this election, then you yourself must file as married filing separately, the most expensive filing status.
This is a tricky question and you should get help from a professional tax preparer who is familiar with cross-border issues. If you live near the border it shouldn't be too hard to find one.Can I file Married even though my wife is from Canada and doesn't have a Social Security Number yet?
Yes as log as you have a marrage certified. Why take my word call IRS.
Filing single will prob suit your needs. I dont know if even head of household will ask for a social. you can go on one of those tax prep like H %26amp; R Block and do a mock tax return and see what comes up. just dont his submitt.
