If you date someone for 10 years are you legally married?

I kind of remember someone once saying that if you date someone for 10 years you automatically become legally married. Is this true? and if it is, does it only apply if you've lived together for 10 years or just dated?If you date someone for 10 years are you legally married?

No, you're not automatically married. What they are refering to is if a couple has been together 10 years and living together they can recieve married benefits. Meaning you can file taxes jointly -as if you are married- though you're not married. Also, most insurance companies will let you add your partner on and recieve benefits even though they're not married.





So, after 10 years, and currently living together, I guess you can see as in some legal sence you get married benefits. However, there are some benefits you may not get like visitation at hospitals or perhaps other death benefits if the case arose.

It depends on the State in which you live. There are a lot of States that do not recognize that type of thing. If there are children involved it complicates the legal aspect of things if your pardner dies.Why don't you get married? That the simple and right thing to do.
i'm pretty sure that's only for cohabitation, not just dating. dating would be pretty hard to prove legally anyways, so the living together and having the same address thing would make a lot more sense.
It depends on the state. Not all states recognize common law marriages and the length of time varies from state to state. You'd have to google your state common laws to find out for sure.

I got married almost 4 months ago on July 5th. I was 20, he was 25. He's going to be 26 in December and I'm going to be 21 in May. We've been living as if married for a little over a year and our actual marriage didn't change our relationship and things are going well. We got Married July 12th, and I was 24, and he was 23 (Since then I have turned 25).


Things are going really well! Marriage has already changed us so much for the better-we are a lot more selfless and so far we've really hit our stride. We were long distance for the last year and a half of our relationship, so it has been so wonderful to just be together! We both work all day, and so we look forward to seeing each other at the end of the day.


Marriage changed our circumstances, because now we live together and whatnot, but those changes have all been only an improvement for our relationship.

    More imprtantly if that same creative force that we label as God made everything then condemning another because they don't live the exact same way that youdo is a condemntion of God's creation and a turning away from God's plan.





    We weren't meant to all be the same; we were made to be diverse.





    There is a part of you long buried by the rules and standards that you live by thatcries out in rage at the thought of another living being being denied their freedoms; listen to it.





    I have died twice due to illness and found myself before my creator before being sent back and I can tell you one thing: To deny the inalianable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness to a group that only seeks to follow their hearts is a sin more horrible then you can imagine.





    It is a horror that in the end you will be made to see; you can only run from your own heart so long before it gives out and you find yourself before the creator as I did.

    I think they should get equal rights at least. I don't care if they want to call it marriage or something else. Long as they get same rights as traditional married couples. They'll live together whether our law changes or not. I do think being able to chose you life partner is your fundamental human rights. I think the law should accommodate this.





    To look at it another way we used to guarantee constitutional rights just to white folks not that long ago. We eventually extended that protections %26amp; rights to other races.
    Marriage is two things. It is a ceremony done in a church with religious meaning, and also a civil contract sharing wealth, children, etc. People who aren't married should be able to enter an equivalent civil contract, like for instance two widows who want to buy a house together and be companions but not necessarily sexual partners. That's just a matter of equality under the law. I guess we agree on that part.





    You could call that 'civil union' or 'civil marriage'.





    But also, I know there are gay-friendly churches. If some church decides that it's theology allows gays to marry, then how could the state interfere with that? Does the state have the right to declare that churches can't define 'marriage' for themselves?





    In fact, Christians who say a marriage has to be between a man and a woman, who are they to tell -other- churches what they can't do?
    Two consenting adults who want to get married should all be in the same category. Man and woman, man and man, woman and woman, is irrelevant.
    I believe that someone should be able to name a beneficiary to their estate whoever that person is that they want.


    I believe a person should be able to share their benefits such as medical with a partner of their choice.

    It wouldnt be the same in my mind as a man and a woman being married but for legal purposes of the things I stated I cant see anything wrong with it.
    i dont care what you call it, 'marriage' or not, my partner and i just want the same rights that marriage provides. believe me, it won't take a marriage certificate for us to feel committed to each other, it would just be nice for the government to recognize us as a cohabitating, committed couple. we are having a holy union (non-recognised gay marriage) in a month with our friends and family there to support us, and a pastor to officiate. we are married in the eyes of our families and ourselves, we're just waiting on the world to change. we are raising a baby together also, my partner works and i'm a stay at home mom. we are a family regardless of the law.

    If there are two atheists getting married, then I am quite sure it would not be in a church.





    If there is an atheist married to a christian, then out of respect for the christian partner, he/she might marry in church. That does not mean he believes in christianity, therefore does not make him a hypocrite.
    It's not really that big of a deal.

If his senior personnel, his OIC, SNCOIC or NCOIC and CO/CSM know and are ';winking'; at it they are as guilty as the individual of violating the UCMJ and service regulations.     It is a clear violation of the UCMJ, which falls under Article 134 Adultery and Prostitution. And I think there are other articles he is violating with all the sleeping around.





    The only proof you need is for one of the females to come clean, get him to come clean, or something. If you report him, an investigation will start where the Junior Officers will have to find out what is going on. Just make sure you are right, and that he is doing this. Also know you may ruin the careers of these other people in the process. So by taking him down, you could potentially ruin 4 people's career.

Ok if you are living in the house and your wife or husband dies (who is Thai) you wont get kicked out of the house the next day however I'm sure you will be asked to leave at some point. It depends on who ';the spouse'; willed it too. And NO the house that you built will not go the kids unless.... They are Thai citizens. If the kids are Thai citizens then you can stay in the house to raise them and you can kind of keep the house! you can also get a Special Visa because you are the kids parent. If the house was willed to lets say her sister or a family member they might just take it or sell it... the rules towards ';foreigners'; in Thailand are just Crazy and they change like every day!     Stir fry is pretty easy- cook beef strips, chicken, or shrimp and drain-add fresh stir fry style veggies(Itend to use the frozen) and store bought stir fry sauce. combine until heated through and the veggies are tender/crisp. Serve over cooked rice or ramen noodles. You can add 1 can of drained mandarin oranges very last and top with almonds or sesame seeds.





    I have found that the best and easiest recipes are one skillet or casserole style when you are learning to cook. Also watch the food network if its available to you. I have learned so muich from watching.
    You're lucky...you have plenty of options. How about:


    Pesto on Penne pasta (sautee some extra garlic in olive oil and mix with the sauce)


    Grilled chicken (do you have a foreman?)


    Sliced tomatoes

    Simple and easy is always the best ticket. I noticed that y'all like fresh veggies, why not take some fresh veggies (brocolli *sp* carrots, water chestnuts, and a few others of your choice) and some chicken breast (chopped or whole) and make some chicken stir fry? All you have to do is cook your chicken and veggies, pour the mixture over some rice and you have chicken stir fry with rice. :)





    Another easy recipe is Sheppards Pie:





    1lb ground beef cooked and drained *seasoned to your tastes*


    Mashed potatoes *seasoned to your taste*


    Finely shredded cheese *whatever type you like, my personal favorite however is a mexican blend*





    Preheat oven to 350. In a glass baking dish layer: potatoes-meat-cheese until the dish is full, having cheese as the top layer. Put dish in oven for 15-20 min or until cheese is melted. Remove from oven and serve.

    Hi!


    Get a flank or skirt steak. Grill it or cook it in a grill pan. Buy the Penzey's spices chicago steak seasoning. Shake all over the steak. Sear the steak on both sides to carmelize, then turn heat down and cook to desired doneness.





    Remove steak from heat and let it rest to redistribute the juices - don't cut it yet. It's fine to serve at room temp.





    Prepare a salad of fresh baby spinach, fresh veggies (cooked or not) I've even put sauteed canned corn and it tastes great. You alsmost can't go wrong with the veggies you choose. They veggies taste better if sauteed in olive oil with a little onion and mushroom.





    Heap all salad/ veggies, in bowl. I like to add avocado and goat cheese, but you can add anything you want!!!





    Then layer sloced ssteak on top. Salt and pepper the entire plate. Then I drizzle with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar to taste.





    To really ';supe'; it up...mix mayo with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, garlic powder, a shake or two of dried basil, and fineley chopped sun dried tomatoes (avail in the grocery store, already sliced and in really flavorful oil...) Mix well together and put a dollop on the steak.





    Never fails to please and is EASY, I promise!

    Soy Chicken:





    3-4 Chick breast (boneless skinless works the best)


    1cup soy sauce


    1cup sugar





    2-3 cups rice (depending on how big of an eater)





    bring the soy sauce and sugar to a rapid boil and your chicken (i usually cut into squares)





    while that is cooking I cook my rice (follow directions on box)


    I use the minute rice (red box)

    I learned to cook with a good cookbook when I got married. I messed up alot of things but my dear sweet hubby didn't mind...I would get a cookbook with pics so you will know what the dish is supposed to look like.     It is quite common for new husbands to be fed like Gods, i.e. they have burnt offerings placed before them.





    My suggestion is to buy a couple of good cookbooks, Betty Crocker, Better Homes, the Fanny Farmer Cooking School Cookbook and The Joy of Cooking are all great choices, and start experimenting.





    In a few months you will be doing fine and you will be able to laugh about some of your beginner mistakes.





    If it is any comfort, my first wife could barely boil water when we married, but she became a fairly good cook. My current wife was a great cook when I married her.

    The best age is when you feel its right. I just got married and I am 24 and plan on having kids fairly soon.     I believe there is no right age to get married or right number of children. If you both believe that you will be no happier with any other person the rest of your life, go for it. If you want a longer relationship or a long engagement, its up to you. You don't have to get married at all to be together.     Honestly? Just being married....it had nothing to do with the day, the decorations, the music. Just my husband and I promising our lives to each other.

    There are so many things I'm looking forward to. A few things that will happen when we are married that aren't happening currently is we will be able to get a place together and make it OURS.     Since there are less and less church weddings, and more beach weddings, it is easier to find a dress. Most of the wedding stores carry short yet bridal dresses.


    Try the department stores that have bridal departments pick up a copy of one of the Bride's magazines for help. JC Penney has them, whoever said that first is right.


    You could opt for something beachy and casual, like a sun dress, or just pick a short wedding dress that is not too fussy. Something cool and comfortable and airy would be nice, in case it is hot. Consider wearing something that is not white, or has some color in it/on it.


    Lace would be fine. Be careful not to choose something with a full skirt, the breeze at the beach might reveal more of you than you had planned.


    Consider finding a seamstress to make you a dress, since the winter months are almost here, it might be harder to find a white dress.
    My best friend got married on the beach in Samoa last year. She wore a beautiful mid-length dress (to her mid calves), very soft and flowing, in shades of blue.





    It has very thin straps and a wide skirt which has 'splits' around it, so it flowed really beautifully, especially when a little breeze picked up.





    She pulled her hair up on top of her head with a few loose strands coming down around her face and wore blue and silver jewellery.





    She looked amazing!





    Her hubby wore a hawaiin shirt and longer length shorts.





    They were both barefoot and had frangipani flowers in their hair (a traditional Samoan thing).





    It was just beautiful, and knowing them, it was the perfect setting for them to start their life together.





    Because it's the beach, don't be too formal, something lightweight and flowing is lovely, fairly casual is fine!





    Mostly, what you wear should be someting you feel comfortable and special in.

    Whats The big deal if two people want to get married even if their the same sex?

    It is sad to see! Who does it really hurt if two people want to get married. And don't give me the whole Bible Speech cuz that wont help your case any! There are more divorced people getting married every day and that's a big no no in the Bible. So if that's your argument then maybe you should ban getting married if you have been divorced!Whats The big deal if two people want to get married even if their the same sex?
    Well I'm a Christian. But I think your right.


    I really don't care if people are gay.


    And no one should hold some one back from finding true love.


    That's the only thing that bugs me.


    When I was younger I found myself a LITTLE attracted


    to girls and I was so scared I was going to


    burn in hell forever so I stopped.


    Idk now, I have a boyfriend. But still, it shouldn't be a big deal.


    People can love who they want to. Whats The big deal if two people want to get married even if their the same sex?
    The problem with the issue is:


    1. All states have laws against 2 people of the same sex having sex.


    2. The tax and legal issues that they claim are false.


    If you look back at all the health issues alone,the lawmakers and courts have all but banned marriage between men and women.


    On the tax part,they claim they don't have the same tax advantage as a male %26amp; female couple (which is bogus).


    Married or not everyone who files a tax return can claim any credits and deductions they qualify for.


    ie: a single person can claim a medical expense he paid,either for them self or another person (say your dad or a neighbor).


    All you have to do is show that you paid it.


    As for divorced people getting remarried,it is not a no-no.


    Having sex is adultery in the eyes of God.


    Since this same sex issue started,a couple of women have petitioned the courts for the right to marry their pet dog.
    ';Because I'm Christian and it's against the Bible BLAH BALH BLAH.';


    That's all those people hide behind, the Bible. Or it's ';gross.'; I think it's so funny because it doesn't involve or affect them at all! It's somebody else's life!!!





    God does not judge people for who they love, it's all about how you treat other living beings..... Live and let live.








    Edit: Oh, and about kids learning about it, well they get taught about straight marriage and they get taught Sex Ed, kids still get pregnant, and there are still going to be kids that decide they are gay, mine as well allow CIVIL RIGHTS for everyone.
    I think part of the problem is the nomenclature. For a long time civil governments have given special protections to a man and woman especially for the purpose of protecting any offspring and the ensuing situations offspring have over a long period of years. For a long time this sort of union has been called marriage.


    Now if the civil government wishes to grant special privileges to couples of the same sex this is really a different type of protection in that they are of the same gender and most likely not biologically reproduce. Also same sex couples have different needs than the traditional married husband and wife couple. For instance when they go to the restroom at a public arena they will enter the same restroom for the same sex. Other examples are in situations e.g. where male only can enter- what is a same sex female couple to do? They would miss out on part of the activity.


    Now, when you move to a same sex couple being approved, then it is definitely unfair not give civil privileges to groups of three or more. Why is a couple sacred? One man and five woman therefore should have the same civil privileges as any couple. and three woman and one man should be eligible for the same privileges, e.g. tax benefits, health benefits, ect.


    The the one group that is really discriminated against is the single person who can't get the same privileges of couples or groups. So I believe if you are going to be fair to some situations you should be consistantly fair in all situations.
    I think it's fine BECAUSE I am Christian. In the Bible, Jesus loved everybody no matter who they were. Everyone is equal in His eyes, and everyone should deserve to be happy, right? The Bible says lots of things, but loving and accepting everyone is more important than exclusion and discrimination, at least in my opinion.


    So that's MY Bible speech.


    And besides, there are lots of children out there deserving to be adopted, and I wouldn't deny them a loving family just because there are two moms or two dads.





    Edit: Oh, and parents, gay people are gay in public whether they're married or not, so you still have to explain it. Who explained gays to you?

    I don't think it's fair to gay people at all. It doesn't matter what your religion or belief is, it's not righteous to take away someone's right.


    The Bible didn't state that gay marriage is right, but not everyone is entangled with religious ideas. If you don't believe in it, fine, at least you're not going to 'hell.' But at least allow other people to have a choice in their doings.


    If being gay brings some people happiness and satisfaction, why not let them be?
    I believe it is no one's business but the two people involved.





    Arguments against:


    1) They can't procreate - yes they can through artificial insemination as do ';traditional'; wives. They also can adopt thus giving an orphan a loving home.


    2) They tarnish the sanctity of marriage - I think adultery and divorce do far more harm to the sanctity of marriage.





    I believe opponents of same-sex marriage would be better off spending their time working on:


    -Making adultery a crime.


    -Forbidding divorce.


    -Having city governments issue only ';domestic partner'; certificates giving ALL couples equal rights under the Constitution.


    -The church that performs the traditional wedding will issue the ';marriage'; certificates.

    i think the current voting generation has been raised in a society where homosexuality was not acceptable, and for this reason, they are reluctant to accept that homosexuality is not a disorder or a problem.
