It shouldnt be a big deal!!!! the biggest argument is that gay marriage ';devalues the sanctity of marriage';. hello!?!? can you say Las Vegas wedding chapels and 50% divorce rate?!?! yes, it seems that marriage is so highly valued that 2 people madly in love cant get married these days. ahhh! dont worry, im hopefull the time will come eventually...Whats The big deal if two people want to get married even if their the same sex?
its a slippery slope.. whats next? The man, his mule and the fence post? I know sounds absurd, so did gay marriage 50 years ago. I'm all for civil unions, but passing a law that may possibly force churches to officiate in these marriages and not discriminate is worrisome.. The same thing has happened with the catholic church and baby adoptions.. they decided that since they can not discriminate based on their own religious beliefs about what constitutes a family, and they can not in good conscience send a child to a homo or lesbian family, they Will cease performing these services where necessary. The same could happen to marriage if new laws are passed. Also people need to be aware that if we develop an anything goes mentality.. polygamy may also resurface and become commonly accepted.
i honestly don't know, but i think everyone deserves to be happy and get married no matter who it's to. i actually makes me sick to see people make a big deal about gays. I can't wait to get married next fall to my FH, i just think that anyone should experience the excitment i'm going through, so good point.
I couldn't of said it better myself. Your point is my point exactly. As if Heterosexuals had it all figured out right? We have a divorce rate of 51% and we're trying to preach the sanctuary of marriage. Quite frankly I find that insulting. It doesn't affect anyone, so why does the general public determine what's right or wrong for two people who probably treat each other better than a heterosexual couple would.
There are a lot of ignorant, misinformed people in the world who are so miserable in their own lives that they have to screw other people's up so they can feel better about themselves. And the Bible DOES allow for divorce, it's the Catholic church that's anti-divorce.
i agree. i think its sad. people are so scared of change. i think it freaks people out knowing that it's legal to get married to the same sex. im a married female to a man. but from hearing so much stuff about children feeling a certain way about feeling male/female. makes me understand so much. i just know if my child wanted to marry the same sex. i would totally be there for him. cuz i love him no matter what. society expects people to be a certain way. and if ur not that way ur supposedly wrong. i think that's b/s. screw what people think! its all about how u feel in the end.
Nothing. Who cares? I wouldn't wish marriage on anyone: gay, straight, or otherwise. But if ANY couple can find a way to make it and stay together in a marriage in today's world, then more power to 'em! May they be an example to us all.
Call it a ';union'; or ';partnership'; or any other term you like with all the same rights and I am all for it. Marriage is between a man and a woman, all the religious stuff aside.
I wonder that too.
I have no problem with same sex getting married. They love each other, if they want to get married...they should. They're not hurting anyone else by getting married.
Yeah, I dont know why ppl feel so threatened by that. Probably for the same reason the church shunned divorcees in the 70's. Its just new.
I don't see a problem with it. It doesn't threaten straight peoples right to marry, so we should the straight majority deny them theirs?
If it's no big deal, then guys should go ahead and marry their adult sister.
Get the point?
I agree. This is supposed to be a free country and I am shocked that there is still such discrimination in this country.
Sorry, but it is against God.
I have no problem with it...as long as they love one another.
I'm personally all for homosexual marriage, adoption and any other rights they wish to receive in the same manner as heterosexuals do.
I would love to know when our laws started being based off the Bible?Because to me that is the only time the Bible should be brought into anything regarding laws. Isn't that what separation of church and state is all about?
Typically, marriage has be defined as a joining of a man and a woman. This is the new definition from the wikipedia.: Marriage is a social, religious, spiritual or legal union of individuals. Although this is not a law, to anyone reading this it would appear that homosexuals have the 'right' to get married.
I don't understand the reasoning behind anyone believing that just because two people want to get married, that it has to be a religious ceremony. Its just as easy and cheaper to go to the court house and get married by a justice. Also, I don't know who decided it was others 'right' to decide if a couple could include God in their marriage ceremony? It seems like this is one of the big reasons people are against homosexual marriage.
Here is the definition of civil marriage: Civil marriage is the legal concept of marriage as a governmental institution, in accordance with marriage laws of the jurisdiction. Isn't that really all homosexual couples are wanting? Legal recognition of rights that are denied couples who aren't married.
To me these people who are against this should also be against civil marriage because it is not inclusive of God, and to me I don't see a lot of homosexual couples wanting a religious ceremony anyway. I tried to bring some things into light that I hadn't read from the other posts. Most people are either for it because they don't care or are against it because of the Bible.
