Marriage, as we know it now in Western countries, is a relatively new construct. Marrying for love did not come into vogue until about 100 years ago. Most marriages were social/economic contracts meant to ensure the continuation of a bloodline or share familial wealth and power....Many powerful men had more than one ';wife'; and women were considered property. Love was usually sought outside of marriage in the form of affairs and liasons. It is still that way in some countries and so I have to laugh at all this religious uproar about the sanctity of marriage.....
Paul said ';it would be good never to marry,and do the lord God's Will, but if you could not control your sexual feelings toward the opposite sex, then it is best to marry.
